Color of 96-core optical fiber cable tube

In a 96-core optical fiber cable, the buffer tubes are color-coded using the standard 12-color sequence, with the third tube typically being green.

Tube Color Coding for High-Count Cables

For high-count fiber optic cables such as 96-core cables, the “Tube and Fiber” system is used. Each tube contains up to 12 fibers, and both the tube itself and the fibers inside follow a standardized color sequence based on TIA/EIA-598-C or IEC standards . The standard 12-color sequence for tubes is: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate (Gray), White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose (Pink), Aqua (Light Blue) .

  • In a 96-core cable, there are typically 8 tubes, each containing 12 fibers.
  • The tube colors repeat the 12-color sequence if more than 12 tubes are used, but for 96 fibers, the sequence covers all tubes without repetition.
  • For example, Tube 1 = Blue, Tube 2 = Orange, Tube 3 = Green, and so on .

Fiber Color Coding Inside the Tube

Inside each tube, the individual fibers are also color-coded using the same 12-color sequence: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua . This allows technicians to identify any fiber by its tube color and fiber position. For instance, Fiber #34 in a 96-core cable would be the 10th fiber (Violet) in the 3rd tube (Green) .

Summary

  • Tube color for 96-core cable: follows the 12-color sequence; the third tube is Green.
  • Fiber color inside each tube: also follows the 12-color sequence.
  • This system ensures easy identification, splicing, and maintenance in high-density fiber installations .

By following this standardized color-coding, technicians can reliably manage and trace fibers in large-scale networks such as data centers, FTTH deployments, and backbone cabling.
