What color connector is used inside the fiber optic cable

Inside a fiber optic cable, individual fibers follow a standardized 12-color sequence, while connector colors indicate fiber type and polish style.

Connector Colors

  • Green connectors indicate APC (Angled Physical Contact) polish, used for single-mode fibers in PON, FTTH, and DWDM applications. The angled polish reduces back-reflection and must only mate with other green APC connectors .
  • Blue connectors indicate UPC (Ultra Physical Contact) polish, typically used for single-mode fibers in data networks and patch panels. UPC connectors have a flat polish optimized for low insertion loss and mate only with other blue UPC connectors .
