Installation of Separate Distribution Boxes on Construction Sites

Separate distribution boxes for power and lighting should be installed in dry, ventilated, and accessible locations, with proper grounding, insulated wiring, and compliance with safety standards.

Placement and Accessibility

Distribution boxes should be installed close to the main power supply and near areas with concentrated electrical loads. The distance between the main distribution box and switch boxes should not exceed 30 meters, and the horizontal distance from a switch box to the equipment it controls should be within 3 meters. Boxes must be placed in dry, ventilated areas at normal temperatures, avoiding exposure to gas, steam, liquids, vibration, or heat sources. Ensure enough space for two people to work safely around the boxes, and avoid stacking items or obstructing access .

Box Construction and Separation

Use iron plate or high-quality insulating material for the box, with a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm for metal boxes. Power distribution boxes and lighting distribution boxes should be installed separately; if combined, their circuits must be clearly separated. Wire inlets and outlets should be at the bottom of the box, bundled with waterproof bends, and should not contact the box directly. Rubber-insulated cables are recommended for all connections .

Wiring and Grounding

All wiring must use insulated copper conductors with the correct cross-section as per the electrical design, typically not less than 2.5 mm². Connect the working neutral line separately from the protective neutral using terminal blocks. Ensure all connections are tight, secure, and free of exposed live parts. Proper grounding is essential for safety and reliability, connecting the metal box, mounting plate, and non-live metal parts of equipment to the protective neutral .

Safety and Compliance

Install circuit breakers, fuses, and surge protectors for each circuit. Follow local electrical codes, NEC, IEC, or other applicable standards, and use UL/CE-certified components. Perform visual inspections, insulation tests, and multimeter checks before powering on. Maintain clear labeling and consider modular designs for easier future upgrades . Use insulating gloves and tools during installation to prevent accidents.

Maintenance and Testing

After installation, conduct acceptance testing to ensure normal operation. Schedule regular inspections and maintenance to prevent overheating, loose connections, or insulation failures. Proper ventilation and heat dissipation should be monitored to avoid equipment damage . By following these guidelines, construction sites can ensure safe, reliable, and compliant electrical distribution while minimizing risks to personnel and equipment.
