  4. Connect the fiber: Attach the fiber to the meter. If measuring source power, use a reference patchcord; if measuring at the far end, connect the meter to the receiver side .
  5. Read the display: The meter will show the optical power in dBm. For loss measurements, compare the power before and after a connection to calculate insertion loss in dB .
