Preparation Before Installation or Removal

  1. ESD Protection: Wear a grounded ESD wrist strap and work on an ESD-safe mat to prevent electrostatic discharge that can damage sensitive optical components .
  2. Inspect Modules: Check the optical module for scratches, dents, or deformations. Ensure dust caps are in place and connectors are clean .
  3. Tools and Cleaning: Prepare lint-free wipes, approved fiber cleaning tools, and, if needed, a small flat-head screwdriver for retaining clips .
  4. Disconnect Cables: Remove all fiber or network cables from the module before handling to prevent damage .

Inserting Optical Modules

  1. Remove Dust Caps: Only remove dust caps immediately before insertion to prevent contamination .
  2. Align Properly: Gently align the module with the slot, ensuring the interface matches the port orientation .
  3. Insert Carefully: Slide the module into the slot without applying excessive force. Listen for a click or feel the module seat securely .
  4. Reconnect Cables: Once the module is seated, connect the fiber or network cables, ensuring proper connector type and fiber specifications .

  2. Disconnect Cables: Remove all connected fibers or network cables carefully .
